Drone Technologies 1: Theory and Aeronautical Basics

This course is designed to provide students with basic information about the drone industry to help them understand careers and skills in this field. FAA 14 CFR Part 107 (The Small UAS Rule), officially known as "Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate”. Students will explore the basic skills and knowledge needed to be a recreational/commercial drone pilot. Students will learn pathway certification, Drone Theory and Aeronautical regulations operating rules, Airspace operating rules, Aviation weather, unmanned aircraft systems, flight procedures, radio communications, airport operations, and maintenance inspection procedures.  Students will be introduced to basic drone flight, including manual and programmed flight. Minimum 15-year age requirement for enrollment by the end of the course due to the FAA Part 107 U.S. Commercial Drone Pilot Certification testing age requirement.  The FAA will issue the Part 107 license when a student's age is 16.

Drone Technologies 2: Theory and Design

In Drone Technologies 2 course, students will design, document, and understand the safety involved with drones, airframes, electric motors, propellers, electronics, speed controllers, batteries, chargers and connectors, transmitters, and receivers, as well as the use of cameras, gimbals, ground control stations, regulations, and the FAA.  Students will continue to learn the basics of flight while working with a team. Students will learn CAD basics and 3D print customized parts for a team drone. 

Drone Technologies 3: Learn to Fly

In the Drone Technologies 3 course, students will be introduced to advanced flight of drones to include manual flight and programmed flight with mapping software. Students will develop drone piloting knowledge and skills needed to obtain an FAA Remote Pilot certification. They will participate in drone mission planning, basic to advanced flight operations, and drone aircraft maintenance; execute communication needed as a flight crew team member. Lastly, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and industry credentials for careers in drone technology. Minimum 16 age requirement for enrollment by the end of the course due to FAA Part 107 U.S. Commercial Drone Pilot Certification to be issued.
